Ramadan & Eid Moonsighting Info & Details for QLD

Ramadan moonsighting

Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha are very special occasions in every Muslims life. Ramadan is a blessed month and an opportunity for us to rise in ranks of Paradise and seek forgiveness to stay away from Hell Fire while Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha are the two Eids (Muslim festivals) which we celebrate the Ebadah (acts of Worship) of God and thank Him for giving us the opportunity to get closer to Him.

As you know the prophet Mohammad (pbuh) instructed us to begin Ramadan by sighting the moon and same with the Eid. Unfortunately, Muslims do have some divisions about when they start the month of Ramadan, end the month of Ramadan and do the Eid. As a result, given the differences amongst the Muslims, we learnt from the great scholars of Islam to be united and do the moonsighting together.

In Queensland, most of the mosques have decided to follow the moonsighting within Australia. Sheikh Dr Shabbir Ahmad, of Sydney, has a team of experts who each month sight the moon and inform the rest of the people in Australia. Br Afroz Ali also has a team who separately look for the moon and inform others as well. So every year, on the night of 30th of Sha’baan (i.e the night which precedes the 30th day of Sha’baan) we wait for the moonsighting to be announced by these expert moonsighting people from all around Australia and then to inform the imams here in Queensland. Once the president of the Council of Imams, Sheikh Yusuf peer, announces a satisfactory moonsighting and the beginning of the month of Ramadan, we immediately send an email and SMS to our mailing list and SMS list of AMYN and inform everyone of the announcement of the Council of Imams. We do the same With Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha.

If you would like to receive our SMS, please send us your full name and your mobile number to our mobile number which is 0414 156 900. Please note you must send us your full name and your mobile number to be able to be included in this list and be informed of it.

Also, over the month of Ramadan, we will be informing you of many other great beneficial services that we would like to offer for the Muslims in Queensland. So please join our mailing list and stay tuned to our upcoming emails about other services that we will be offering to the Muslims in Queensland over this blessed month of Ramadan.
